In April 2013, I became involved with getting a traffic light at Mirabay and State Route 41 because it was becoming increasingly difficult to go north on 41 when leaving Mirabay in the morning as well as turning left across US 41 to return into Mirabay. There were a few accidents, and I felt something needed to be done. The center of the intersection was too wide and cars were getting stacked in there creating visibility problems.
I went to the HOA, CDD and Newland and was told it was not their responsibility to get a traffic light. I called the Florida DOT and found a contact. The rest is history and we have been up and running since January 2015.
Let's look at the project management of the traffic light. After studies were completed by the DOT that indicated the traffic light was warranted, it was time to get the job done. Terrabrook, as developer, was responsible to put in and pay for the light. Newland hired Lincks & Associates to design and implement the traffic light.
Lincks put together a Gantt chart (click here) that showed all the steps and the time frame for completing those steps. Newland posted this information at my request on their website to keep everyone informed. In addition, we sent out updates (click here for an example) to keep you informed and allow you to address your concerns. We told you what the plan was, we kept you informed as the plan was implemented, and we got the light installed on time.
